..well,where was ah before ah was interupted It was generally accepted amongst us that WG 10 would b the last, but it very nearly never took place, infact it was off for a week in early April, the result of a rather unsuccessful doo. Maybe it shouldnt have taken place...2 close to the previous ones...but when everyone u speak to says theyre goin u think they will It started wi me, wife,Dav, Jeck an Steve Shoes..an ended wi the same plus Zeb an the wife an 2 Poles! The aftermath was the rally bein off..f**k it basically..but tempers subsided an we carried on Couple o weeks later it was nearly off again though...word on the street was that the Distillery was shutting, a phone call confirmed this, the rally bein the last payin event there, and to the best o mah knowledge this remains the case...an before anyone says its still open, ah mean the function hall....a fact ah have quite frankly got sick to the back teeth of telling people A bit late ah know, but after the previous years fiasco over grass cutting ah got Raymond(the owner) to agree to let ma owl Da do it So grass was cut 4 weeks before an ah mowed it twice after that...place was lookin great until the 2 day monsoon before it Actually 95% o the field was fine, just the 1st bit , still far better than the year before ;D Now this years rally was shapin up to b busy..everybody u spoke to sayin they were comin an while it was it certainly didnt break records ( conversations with a great many people confirmed that our thoughts of it havin run its course were about right). Another curve ball hit us 2 weeks before when the wife was given a card from a security company.. Well ah phoned him..transpired we had to provide licensed bouncers..nice o them to tell us! they actually wanted 24 hr security but ah just ignored that request in the hope that itd go away..it did Still, the extra costs meant we had to increase fridays entry to £15 The rally came an was a great success ,everybody seemin to enjoy it, that years band ,More From Jim, goin down well....a few of the crowd almost emotional when the last record finished(If i could only b sure by Nolan Porter../ah was , although Nothin But Blue Skies for me tomorrow may have been more apt ) Ahd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended WG over the years, only 2 small scuffles in all that time , pretty good, ahd say. The rally "make up" changed greatly over the years...from bein almost exclusively scottish to begin with to the end where it was a real mix, Scots(mainly Glasgow an west coast), a good few English(especially the North East...an big scotty from Rossendale) and the Northern Irish, who at the end made up at least a third. Indeed, a few of them took home best turned out trophies..Sheer beer twice, Pride of the north an Solid Bond ,who won the last one with an astonishing 45 in attendance Ahd also like to pay tribute to the wife, Audrey , who has had a lot to put up with(just in general) but who over the last 15 years has had to sit on the back o that scooter to most rallies we"ve attended..infact ahd say there would b very few women whod been to more as a co driver, certainly in southern scotland...ahm sure a great many wives at rallies may never even have been on the back o one. Anyway, as ah said the rally was good, nobody died, an that was that...over,no more. the marquee was donated to a local cancer charity, hopefully doin some good. To all those who didnt make it , basically tough, ahd like to have been in Barcelona in 72 but wasnt(cant see that happenin again for a while ). We follwed this with a trip to a rally in the Lake district..wettest place ahve ever been!! great laugh tho...in the company of the Right Track S.C...namely Andy an Bigbthesoulman, owner of the legendary Olympic Flame Ah think that was it for the year... what would happen now we didnt have a rally ..
